                  Myostat From Biotest Supplement Company

*Once again, we've caused an industry-wide shake up. And rightfully so. With the recent announcement that we've found a way to neutralize the effects of myostatin, and that we've filed a patent on the active compound, most sports-supplement companies' hearts have sunk to somewhere around their left ankle.

I can definitely feel for them, too. The ability to neutralize myostatin means that you can now take the governor off muscle-mass limitations, and grow and grow and grow and grow and grow!

Sale $50.00

Obviously, the market for this is H-U-G-E! And to be locked out of the myostatin "category," as a sports-supplement company, would cause major, fire-breathing-dragon-type heartburn. As a result of all this angst, our competitors are responding in one of three ways:

1) They're "ignoring" us, hoping their customers will too.

2) They're attacking us, saying we're full of dooky-doo.

3) They're ripping off our idea and manufacturing bogus myostatin binders, attempting to capture some of the market.

Mostly to avoid fueling the existing market excitement, our competitors are downplaying our discovery. They certainly don't want to see any of their customers making purchases on our side of the ledger. And, so far, we've only had one company that attempted to produce a rip-off product, and I mean literally! Here's what happened:

This supplement company got wind of our myostatin project and contacted the PhD in charge of the research, pretending to be "interested in the name of science." Being science minded and unsuspecting of dirty-trick tactics, the PhD told them about the discovery and sent them, of all things, a small sample of the compound! After which, they developed a product, placed ads in magazines, and began taking pre-orders.

Once we realized what was happening, we immediately contacted the company and asked: "What are you thinking?! Since we're the only ones who have access to the compound, how in the world do you think you're going to get away with this scheme?"

They told us that they'd do anything if we'd just puleeeez sell them the material. We informed them that 1) there's not enough of the compound to spare; 2) we have way too much invested in the project to release it to other companies; and 3) the science behind myostatin regulation is somewhat complex and we don't want to risk other companies disseminating misinformation in the name of marketing. (Number 3 was a polite way of saying, we don't want smarmy ads popping up that mislead the public by making wild claims.)

Anyway, just be aware that other companies are going to attempt to ride on our myostatin coattails by launching completely bogus products.

As far as the science community is concerned, well, they're split right down the middle. One half is spouting off, "This can't be done with a natural product!" And the other half is so excited about the possibilities of super human, permanent, muscle growth that they can barely contain themselves.

Usually, academia as a whole is quite skeptical of innovation. It's as if they're afraid of making a mistake and "losing their reputation" amongst their peers. In other words, no one wants to be the first to embrace something new for fear of being marked a "renegade" or worse, a "sellout." This kind of thinking is so oppressive that a lot of potentially good ideas are squelched long before they're ever fully investigated.

This time, with our myostatin breakthrough, it's a completely different story. All of the scientists who've seen our data have become big believers in the project. They say, even if we're only able to reduce myostatin by 10%, it'll revolutionize one's ability to build muscle. And everyone believes we've done much better than that.

Now what I'm about to do next is very important. I have everyone's best interest in mind, and I want to protect the integrity of our myostatin project. Therefore, I believe we should reveal our invention and enough of the details that it'll put an end to speculation about what we're doing.

It's now time to unveil what we've been trying to keep secret for the better part of a year. I would've preferred waiting another three to six months, when we're further along with our performance trials, but out-of-control excitement and loose lips have forced our hand here. If we don't step in now and begin educating people about what we have, it'll be impossible to prevent vulture companies from entering the market with bogus products, and to correct all the misinformation that's beginning to emerge.

All I can say is, hold on, bubba, it's gonna' be a wild ride. This discovery could cause us to rethink a lot of things we've considered "laws" of exercise science.

New Muscle, More Muscle, Bigger Muscle, or All the Above?

Before I get into the specifics of our discovery, I want you to know that Biotest and Pinnacle have been working together on The Myostatin Project. In case you've been living under a moss-covered rock in a creek bed somewhere in the Ozark Mountains, Pinnacle is the company that invented Androstat Poppers.

I have great respect for the president of Pinnacle. He's truly an honorable hombre, and one smart cookie, to boot. Our research departments work well together, and like Biotest, they're obsessed with innovation and quality.

Between the two of us, we've invested a lot more money in the project than we care to admit and we've assembled a group of researchers and industry experts that includes some of the best thinkers science has to offer. We've engaged the very best in all the necessary fields, including exercise scientists, drug delivery and drug-design experts, physiologists, medical doctors, theoretical and organic chemists, and the list goes on.

We even have our very own medicine-man PhD who roams around the world seeking exotic plants with potent medicinal properties. I'm not kidding. He's the Indiana Jones of the sports-supplement industry. He's been everywhere from China to Madagascar, from the Himalayas to the Amazon. And it's this very man who discovered our myostatin neutralizer… quite by accident.

Throughout history, many scientific discoveries have been made by so-called "accident" — penicillin, X-rays, the smallpox vaccine, insulin, the theoretical basis of allergies, Velcro, Coca Cola, Post-it notes, aspartame, and TC's ökalingus sexual-excitement technique, just to name a few. And it's no different with our myostatin neutralizer — we discovered the active compound while looking in a completely different direction.

As we get into the actual discovery, unless you understand the distinct mechanism in which myostatin inhibits muscle growth, you could misinterpret what we're actually doing. So please read carefully.

First off, there's a myostatin gene, and there's a myostatin protein. In essence, the gene regulates the production of the protein, and it's the protein that's responsible for shutting down the production of new muscle cells.

The operative phrase here is "growth of new muscle cells," because in a mature human, due primarily to the influence of myostatin, it's not possible to produce new muscle cells to any significant degree. And it's the muscle cells that give a mature muscle the capacity to grow through hypertrophy — increasing the actual thickness of existing fibers.

So, the more muscle cells you have present, the greater the potential is for growth.

On the other hand, if you could neutralize myostatin, then the satellite cells would proliferate much longer, substantially increasing the number of myoblasts produced. These myoblasts would mature into myocites, then into myotubes, and ultimately into muscle cells. And like I've already mentioned before, the more muscle cells you have present, the greater the potential is for hypertrophy, or growth.

You could say that myostatin protein acts sort of like a muscle contraceptive. As long as it's active in the body, free to attach itself to satellite cells, there'll be very few new baby muscles born in our bodies.

Got it?

Myostatin present = few new baby muscles born.

Myostatin not present = muscle-population explosion!

But let's not get too carried away with the thought of having massive new muscle development overnight. Yes, by neutralizing myostatin you will experience increased muscle-cell proliferation, but you're not going to go to bed one night looking like Pee Wee Herman and wake up the next morning as Arnold. It's a much slower process, taking a year or more to accomplish.

Even so, this process is so powerful that it can literally transform your physique with an increase in muscle density that otherwise wouldn't be attainable.

There are other factors that go into limiting overall muscle growth, but it seems that myostatin has by far the strongest influence. And as you can imagine, ever since myostatin was first discovered, scientists have been trying to find ways to moderate its effects. Basically, this has divided the scientific community into two camps. One camp is attempting to regulate the myostatin gene through genetic engineering, which is only practical when dealing with farm animals and other non-human species.

The other camp is attempting to negate, or neutralize, the effects of the myostatin protein, which has direct application in medicine and sports. This can potentially be done by either blocking the receptor site, or binding free myostatin prior to reaching its receptor. And between the two, it's the binding approach that shows most promise. Science has already proven that if you successfully bind myostatin protein, you get the same effect as if you completely knocked out the gene.

Next week, in Part 2 of this article, I'm going to be focusing on the only practical way to regulate myostatin in humans, which is binding the protein. And to do that, we're going to enter a world where no other supplement company has ever taken you before. This is an exotic experience that closely resembles a modern James Bond setting, where the science of the future is somehow transmuted into today's reality.

You think I'm kidding, don't you? Just wait... You'll see.

Let me leave you with this:

We truly believe we've found a way to take the governor off genetic limitations to muscle growth, making it possible for the "average human" to become, well, "super-human."

What are Dietary Supplements?

“A dietary supplement is a product taken by mouth that contains a “dietary ingredient” intended to supplement the diet”, according to the FDA website. (www.cfsanf.fda.gov/~dms/ds-oview.htmlAlso  the FDA  defined what they consider to be a dietary ingredients, “The dietary ingredients in these products may include : vitamins, mineral, herbs or other botanicals, amino acids, and substances such as enzymes, organ tissues, and metabolites."  (www.cfsanf.fda.gov/~dms/ds-oview.html)

Dietary Supplements Health and Education Act of 1994 (law that regulates supplements)

Before 1958, Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulated dietary supplements as they regulated Drugs, which insured the consumers  safe and high quality supplements.  However, in 1994, President Clinton gave birth to the  Dietary Supplements Health and Education Act of 1994 (DSHEA), which changed the way the FDA regulated dietary supplements.  As a result of this law, the supplement companies now have a lot of power on how they make their  supplements and how they market their supplement's health claims.  Before, the creation of DSHEA law, supplements had to pass strict FDA law before they could sale their supplements.  However, now,  “Dietary supplements are no longer subject to the pre-market safety evaluation”, according to FDA website. www.cfsan.fda.gov/~dms/dietsupp.html

How does DSHEA Law protected Consumers

DSHEA law is like Robin-hood because it gives the consumer (you & me) Dietary supplements.  However, it robs us because we are not insured that we get what we paid for when it comes down to supplement safety, and supplement quality. However, I  personal think DSHEA law is OK  because it gives me access to supplements that help me reach my fitness goals.  However, on the other side, the DSHEA law is not that great because I willingly know I spend money on supplements that do not meet up to their Nutrtion labeling or "Supplement Fact sheet" statements, which means I don’t get what I paid for. However,  Coming  back to the point, what does the DSHEA do for the consumer?

·        The DSHEA give the FDA the power to set up the  Good Manufactory Practices regulation with the supplements manufacturing companies (GMPs), which means FDA can have some control over their  preparation, packing, and holding of dietary supplements.

·        Also the DSHEA, set up the Commission on Dietary Supplements, which has seven  members who are  appointed by the president.  These seven member's requirements are:

o       3 members must be qualified by scientific training, and have experience to evaluate supplements' health benefits,

o       1 of these members must be trained in pharmacognosy

o       1 of these members must be trained in medical botany

o       1 of these members must  be trained in traditional herbal medicine

How does DSHEA laws NOT PROTECTS consumers?

  • “Dietary supplements do not need approval form FDA before they are marketed”, according to  FDA website.  www.cfsan.fda.gov/~dms/ds-oview.html
  • “Supplement Manufacturers Companies do not need to register themselves nor their dietary supplements products with FDA before producing or selling them”, according to FDA website.  www.cfsan.fda.gov/~dms/ds-oview.html
  • It Empowers Supplements Manufactures to be their own judicial system when it comes down to market Health Claims.   What  I mean by this is, thanks to  DSHEA law , supplements companies do  not have to show their credibility of their research that supports their health claim for a supplement to FDA or any other governmental committee.
  • It empowers the supplement manufacturers to regulate themselves, to insure that every supplement made has the right amount of  ingredients that it is  stated on the “Supplement Fact” panel.  Now think about it logically.  Supplement Companies want the most amount of money they can.  So do you think supplement companies will not take short cuts to capitalize on their raw supplement making  materials to produce the most they can with what  raw materials  they have?.  This logical assumption is only made if  the supplement company did not buy the cheap raw materials. In other words, many times you  and I buy supplements and we do not get what we paid for.

Five items that need to be on all supplement bottles according to DSHEA law according to the FDA website (www.cfsan.fda.gov/~dms/ds-oview.html)

1.      Name of the supplement.

2.      Name and place of the manufacturer, packer, or distributor.

3.      Complete list  of ingredients.

4.      Net weight of the supplement produced.

5.      Nutrition label called “Supplement Facts” panel .

Are Dietary Supplements Safe?

It all depends on who you ask!  Some  health Professionals say that supplements are not safe, while other health Professionals say that dietary supplements are safe.  For example,  www.aids.org   talks about how they use supplements like Glutamine and Lipoic-Acid to help patients with AID's.  I personally support supplementation because it has worked for me in my own fitness goals.  Also,  I have Personal sold supplements to individuals that had intestinal disorders that need to absorb protein in a shake form, which means they use meal replacements to get their protein intake. However, I do  not recommend not to eat foods, and only take supplements.  DON'T EVER TAKE ANY SUPPLEMENT LIKE BAR OR MEAL REPLACEMENT  TO REPLACE  REAL FOOD BECAUSE IT IS UNHEALTHY.  However, I am not saying all supplements are safe because as I mention earlier that the FDA does not regulate supplements, and  therefore, every supplement company acts differently when it comes to how they manage  safety. CAUTION,  Many Supplement Companies Just Want “The Money”.

WHAT IS CREATINE ?

Creatine is an amino acid, which is made in the body by the liver and kidneys.  Creatine is also found in the muscle of animals, too.   Therefore, if you had any type of meat today, then you have consumed Creatine.   About 90% of all the creatine in the body is taken up in the skeleton muscles system, and the other 5-10% is spread through the body in the heart, brain, and testes.   After the creatine is absorbed in the body, than the creatine changes into a molecule called phospocreatine, which will then be used to synthesize ATP.   According to a publication from Tufts University, most creatine is stored in muscle tissue and becomes important when muscles need short, quick bursts of energy for activities like sprinting or strength training.

Are Creatine Supplements Safe ?

Most of the university studies have suggested that creatine may be safe.  Creatine supplement was found in 1832, and since then, all types of athletes have been taking it for performance enhancers for years.  However, there are other studies stating that we need longer studies to determine if Creatine supplements are safe in the long run.  Therefore, the point comes down to who you ask.  If you ask a Pharmaceutical company what they think about Creatine supplements, they will look at you in the eye and tell you that Creatine does not work, and is not safe for you.  Pharmaceutical companies hate all Dietary Supplements because they can not patent dietary supplements  and make money from them  because of DSHEA law passed by congress.   In result, Pharmaceutical companies do not want to spend millions and billions of dollars researching a supplements  to reveal their true gifts in healing and sport performances.  For example, in Great Britain many supplements we Americans buy at a supplement shop are only prescribed by Doctors, one great example, is St. John's Worth.

In conclussion, there are many professionals  that state that if Creatine is taken in the right amount then there are  few side effects, if any. Some of the side effects of creatine are cramping , dehydration, diarrhea, and dizziness, according to The American  Pharmaceutical association, written by Angi S. Graham and Randy C. Hatton.

What is the benefit of taking creatine supplements?

1. Increase skeleton Muscle Mass and Muscle Strength

    • According to Nutrition 2001 jul-aug; 17(7-8):558-66

2. Helps with short, quick bursts of energy for activities like weightlifting & sprinting

    • According to Tuffs University

    • After consuming creatine, it is turned into phosphocreatine, which  aids in the reproduction of ATP from ADP.  Phosphocreatine is the limiting factor for the reproduction of ATP from ADP.   Therefore, when you take creatine you can perform a physical active for a longer duration of time because there is more phosphocreatine in the muscle to turn the ADP into ATP in the cell.

3.  Creatine may play an indirect  rule in being a buffer during exercise, which declines the pain-like feeling that comes with the Lactate acid being released during the break down of  ATP.

·        When, creatine is taking it is converted into phosphocreatine.  Than, the phospocreatine aids in the turnover effect of the production of ATP from ADP. In addition, during the splitting of ATP molecular to release energy to use by the cells, there is a byproduct produced called, "Lactide Acid".  Lactide Acid is toxic to the muscle, and that is why you feel the burning pain when we work out with weights. Some studies state that phospocreatine plays like a buffer during the splitting of ATP. This means that  that during exercise  individuals will be able to perform their physical activities for a longer period of time, before they give-into the pain caused by the lactate acid released, during the splitting of ATP molecules.  The cell needs to split the ATP molecules for energy to do their work like: muscle contraction,  digestion,  cell transportation, and everyday normal day living.

  4.  Creatine May Protect Against TRAUMATIC BRAIN INJURY

    • Creatine may prevent brain damage following a traumatic brain injury, according to a new research study led by Stephen Scheff, Ph.D professor, University of Kentucky. Doctor Stephen Scheff, stated “our data shows that creatine supplementation protects against secondary damage associated with TBI  by inhibiting the calcium-induced activation of a protein in the mitochondrial membrane, which preserves proper function of the mitochondria.

    • The damage also is reduced because creatine acts to maintain appropriate amounts of ATP in brain cells.  This strongly suggests that athletes may be gaining a neuroprocteive benefit inadvertently by chronically supplementation their diet with creatine.” The study was published in November issue of Annals of Neurology.

5.  Creatine may be beneficial for neuromuscular disorders based on two University Studies:

    • According to M. Flint Beal of Cornell University, their  Medical Center demonstrated that creatine was twice as effective as the prescription drug riluzole in extending the lives of  mice with the degerative neural disease amyotrophic lateral sclerosis

    • According to Mark Tarnopolsy and Joan Martin of McMaster University Medical  in Ontario found that creatine can cause modest increases in strength in people with a variety of neuromuscular disorders.  There finding there published in the March 1999 issue of Nature Neuroscience  and the second publication in the march 1999 issue of Neurology

Is creatine For Me?

It all depends on what your goal is.  This is a very important idea to ponder over before taking any type of supplements. If your goal is to put on weight and increase your strength, than creatine supplementation may be right for you.  However, if your goal is to be the winner of a long distance race, than creatine may not be for you. However,  that does not mean that a long distance runner cannot take creatine.  The long distance runner would supplement on creatine when he/she was in his/her off season, while his/her  fitness goals would  be focused on muscle gain and not win a long distance race.   As you can see in this example, the same individuals may benefit form taken creatine supplement in one fitness goal, while on the other hand, the same individuals would not benefit by taken creatine in another fitness goal like winning a long distance race.

What is HMB?

HMB stands for beta-methylbutyrate, and it is in our everyday foods.  In addition, our body produces HMB from the amino acid leucine.  “HMB is an important Precursor to protein synthesis”, According to The Journal of Nutrition and www.cwu.edu.

In addition, The Journal of Nutrition stated that, “HMB can decrease muscle protein degeneration, thus aiding in the increase of strength and muscle endurances with an accompanying resistance training program.”

What can HMB do for me?

It all depends on a the individual's goals!   For example, if you are a:

·        Bodybuilder then HMB supplement definitely will help you in building muscle faster because it prevents the brake down of  muscle cell membrane, and at the same time HMB supplement will aid in the repairing your Damaged Muscle cell walls.  Therefore, you will build more muscle in a faster rate because you are damaging less muscle cell wall, and increase the repair time of the damage muscle cell wall.

Is HMB supplements Safe?

According too some UNIVERSITY STUDIES, HMB SEEMS TO BE SAFE.    Not only do HMB supplements help build muscle and increase tissue-healing time, it may decrease a person's body fat.   HMB has  also been showing to be helpfully fighting HIGH Blood Pressure & High Blood Cholesterol, according to many university studies like

·        Department of surgery, ANN Surg 2002 sep;236(3):369-74 discussion 374-5

·        The Journal of Nutrition 2000, Aug, 130(8): 1937-45:  www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov

·        www.hmb.org

In conclusion, “the objected data collected across nine experiments indicates that HMB supplements can be taken safely as an egogenic  aid for exercise,  and that objective measures of health and perception of well-being are generally enhanced”, according to Journal of Nutrition 2000, Aug, 130(8): 1937-45:  www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov

What is  Diabetes?

When we eat any type of foods, our body breaks down the food to produce energy (ATP),   ATP is the simplest form of energy that our cells us do their normal day actives.  For example, the Human cell uses ATP for a wide range of needs like:  Muscle contraction for locomotion moments, Rebuilding and repairing of tissues,  and Digestion and Transpiration of food.  However, With Diabetes, the body has difficulties  producing insulin or the cell receptors do not work right, therefore the insulin is not absorbed in the tissues.  Insulin is a hormone that helps take out the energy (sugar) out of the blood vessels.   For Example, after eating a meal, a person's  blood sugar raises above homeostasis levels.  So, the receptors in the human arteries pick up the increase of sugar levels.  Than, the Receptors fire off a signal, which is send to the brain.  Next,  the brain sends a message to the pancreas to release insulin because insulin decreases the blood sugar levels. Finally, the blood sugar levels go down.  However, on people that are  victims of diabetes their bodies have a hard time controlling blood sugar levels.

.

What is Type 2 Diabetes

Type 2 Diabetes is the most common form of disease.  Type 2 Diabetes was seen in the past in older adults, 40 yrs and older.  However, with today's fast way of living and fast food,  children and younger people are being diagnosed with the condition.

Type 2 Diabetes is linked closely to lifestyle chooses and being sedentary. In other words, being obese and being physical inactive greatly increases a person's chance of being a victim of this disease.

Tips for  Type 2 Diabetes

1. Be physical  active............Type 2 Diabetes is closely  linked to being Overweight

2.  Call Fitness2go.net to get a Resistance Training workout program  because lifting weight can have an   insulin-like effect on the body after working out.

3.Eat variety of foods, including fruits, vegetables, and whole grain foods.

4.  Eat less sugar.  Limit yourself to one Soft Drink a day, if you have to have one, that is.

5.  Eat less salt.  Your food already has too much sodium in it before you even add any salt to it.
